Meet Our Leadership
Karen Richards, CERS, CPC, CTS
President and CEO
As the co-owner of Fidelis Companies, Karen has watched the business grow from a small operation started in the kitchen to a multi-million dollar business. She fell in love with recruiting 20 years ago in Houston, Texas and has never looked back.
After graduating from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics, Karen discovered technical recruiting was a great way to leverage her inquisitive and analytical mind with her exuberant and enthusiastic personality. In 1996, Advanced Communication Solutions was formed servicing the general IT and engineering verticals. Over the years, additional lines of business were added as the markets and economy changed and evolved. Today the business lines include Fidelis IT, Fidelis BioPharm and Fidelis Engineering. Staying current on the ever-changing laws and trends in the staffing and talent acquisition space is highly important to Karen. She is a Certified Employee Retention Specialist (CERS), Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) and Certified Temporary-Staffing Specialist (CTS).
Along with successfully running her company, Karen is a mom to three boys. She coaches little league, volunteers with youth and various non-profit organizations. She somehow still finds time to support several professional organizations. She is a member of the College of Science Dean’s External Advisory and Development Council at Texas A&M, the Society for Human Resource Management – DFW Staffing Management Associate, IEEE, and the Women’s Business Counsel. She is also a board member of the National Association of Personnel Services and Metroplex Association of Personnel Consultants.
Alan Butz, CPC
Chief Operating Officer
Alan founded the company as a one man shop in 1996 before joining forces with his fellow co-owner, Karen Richards and building the successful business it is today. With over 20 years of recruiting and staffing experience, Alan has hired, trained and developed numerous successful recruiters throughout his career. With a bachelor of science in management from Purdue University, owning and operating his own company was right up his alley. Alan is an active member in the National Association of Personnel Services and the Metroplex Associate of Personnel Consultants, and is a Certified Personnel Consultant. He has won numerous “big biller” awards, including Top Producer out of over 250 recruiters.
In case you thought operating your own business didn’t leave much time for fun, guess again. In addition to running a multi-million dollar business, Alan is very involved with his three boys and thoroughly enjoys when basketball season comes around and he can dust off his coaching whistle. When it comes to fun, golf and snowboarding are his activities of choice. Alan is an active member of Gleneagles Country Club in Plano and is the President of the Men’s Golf Association, member of the Golf Committee and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Governors. Alan feels fortunate that he is able to share his love of golf, along with its core set of life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity, respect and perseverance, with the kids from the First Tee of Dallas.
Director of Operations
When he’s not on cycling trails throughout the DFW area, Keith is managing the contract divisions of Fidelis IT and Fidelis BioPharm. Keith began his career with the largest technical services company in the U.S. and now has over 20 years of experience in the staffing and professional services industry.
He joined Fidelis in 2005 as the Director of Operations in charge of sales, operations and delivery of services. He now successfully manages four teams throughout two divisions at Fidelis Companies with full P&L responsibility.
Tom McMullen, CTS
SAP Practice Lead
Tommy started at Fidelis in 05’ as a Recruiter in SAP, PSFT, Oracle and Lawson. He has cultivated his passion for meeting new people and building relationships into a leadership and sales role on the Fidelis IT team exclusively focused on SAP.
With a BS in marketing and minors in French and international business from Kansas State, Tommy is a proud Wildcat through and through. His passion for travel allowed him to study in Aix-en-Provence, France as well as backpack thru 16 different countries enjoying different languages, cultures and people.
When not in the office, he can usually be found on the golf course, playing racquetball or at a classic rock concert somewhere in the DFW area. He is currently loving being a newlywed, enjoying a new home and raising their three pets. No kids just yet…
Tommy’s SAP team has doubled in size since its inception and is now operating a multi-million dollar business unit that continues to grow.
John Branson, CTS
SAP Recruiting Lead
John came to staffing in 2004 and began building Fidelis Companies’ SAP Division in 2007 with Tommy McMullen. It has since become a multi-million dollar team and major force in the SAP consulting market. They have been recognized and awarded consistently since 2009 by the D/FW Metroplex Association of Personnel Consultants.
When he’s not working to make the world of SAP consulting both exciting and safe, John enjoys his family, arcane KISS trivia and spouting Napoleon Hill sounding clichés.
Michelle Cessnun, CTS
Infor/Oracle Practice Lead
With over 14 years of experience in the staffing industry, Michelle still maintains relationships with consultants she met when she first got into recruiting, those 14 years ago. With a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology from Stephen F. Austin, Michelle graduated with plans of becoming a teacher, but took a recruiting class while looking for work and never looked back.
She is now the Practice Lead for the Infor/Lawson and Oracle teams in the Fidelis IT division, in charge of hiring, training and managing a staff of recruiters and account managers while also maintaining her reputation among both her peers and consultants in the industry.
If she’s nowhere to be found in the office, you can probably find Michelle skiing down the mountains of Colorado or returning to her old hangouts in California with her family.
May Li, PhD., CPC
Scientific R&D Practice Lead
Dr. May Li has successfully placed biotech and pharmaceutical PhD scientists, group leaders, directors, and VPs across the country. A former PhD molecular biologist from Columbia University and post-doctoral scientist from Yale University School of Medicine, May draws from personal hands-on lab experience to help other scientists develop and advance careers in industry. May has a deep network of exceptional talent in several scientific disciplines.
Richard Steinfeld, CTS
Clinical Practice Lead
Richard came to Fidelis in 2008 as a recruiter on the clinical affairs team. As a man of his word, he has since built a reputation in the industry as a “very professional account manager” and “go getter.”
As an original California kid, Richard is still an avid Dodgers fan. In tradition with keeping his California roots, he also supports the Lakers, Kings and UCLA football and basketball. However, Texas seems to have rubbed off on him because his loyalties in the NFL lie with America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Johnny Letourneau, CPC
Medical Affairs Practice Lead
Johnny has been with Fidelis since 2000 and has been recognized as a Top Producer by Metroplex Association of Personnel Consultants for the past five years. His ability to build relationships with both clients and candidates, along with operating with integrity and trust, are the characteristics his clients can count on him for.
Johnny has successfully built several MSL teams and when he’s not in the office working hard for his clients, he’s out enjoying the DFW sights with his family.
James Roberts, CPC
Engineering Practice Lead
With over 16 years of high-tech engineering experience, James is your go-to guy when you are looking for someone with deep technical and market knowledge in the consumer electronics and semiconductor industries. His ability to intelligently communicate with people who move electrons, push polygons or design GUIs is a rare trait in the staffing industry.
James is a University of Texas at Arlington Magna cum Laude graduate, with a BBA in management. When he’s not helping candidates advance their career or managers build successful teams, James can be found mountain biking, playing baseball, volunteering with youth at his local church or enjoying some free time with his two daughters.
Oh, and we should probably mention, he is a two-time Footbag World Champion and 2008 Footbag Hall of Fame inductee. Now, who wouldn’t want to work with this guy?
